Be Thankful

O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.
- Psalm 136:1

Over the past year there have been many moments of struggle and strife, so it's extra important to remember that there is still so much to be grateful for. With Thanksgiving Day approaching, perhaps like me you have begun to think about the things for which you are most thankful. The more I think about it the more my list grows!

As I begin to think about what I am thankful for, I immediately think about what the Lord has done for me. He provided Salvation! With his death, burial, and resurrection I can choose to trust in Him for my eternal destiny. I chose that gift as a 12-year-old boy and have never looked back.

I am also thankful for the very basics of life: house, home, food, clothes, a loving wife, children, grandchildren, good health, and friends. I am also thankful for the beautiful blue skies, sunshine, and cool temperatures we enjoy in our south Florida winters. As I was thanking God for all these things, it reminded me that everything comes from the good and gracious hand of our Lord. “Every good and perfect gift comes from above.” I began to imagine God’s divine hand opening wide to me, and pouring many blessings into my life. The list of blessings that He gives me each and every day is endless.

I’m very thankful for all the families of Westwood Christian School. There is a gratefulness in my heart as I walk through the buildings and hear and observe all the joy and excitement from our students. We are aware of all the challenges that are going on in secular education, yet I am thankful that we have the privilege to give the students of Westwood Christian a Biblical worldview.

Finally, as I reflect upon our nation’s conditions at this time of the year, I am reminded of one of our great President Ronald Reagan's statement: “If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.”

I am thankful for you! May everyday be filled with abundant gratefulness.

Happy Thanksgiving!
