Preschool Curriculum

Pre-K2

The two-year-old program meets the need of the whole child. Organization, habit training, and socialization are balanced with the introduction to many new spiritual and academic concepts during the year. This year is so foundational to the development of your child. As they come to school each morning we want them to learn in a way that is fun, creative, and developmentally appropriate. Westwood Christian uses the ABeka Curriculum. Our classroom time is teacher directed. Here are a few of the areas emphasized during the year:

  • Daily Bible lessons, songs, and storytelling
  • Developing social skills
  • Practicing good manners and habits
  • Identifying colors, shapes, alphabet, and numbers
  • Improving motor skills through physical activities and manipulatives
  • Many themes are covered during the year to develop social awareness of our community and needs

Pre-K3

The three-year-old pre-kindergarten is an academic program. Westwood Christian uses the ABeka Curriculum in the preschool classes. During the class time the children will be introduced to the following:

  • Bible: Themed and Bible Character Lessons, Bible memory, music, and story retelling
  • Development: Motor skills, socialization skills, organization, and good character are emphasized daily

In order to enter the three-year-old program, each child must be potty trained.

Pre-K4

Many children who complete their preschool education at Westwood Christian Preschool go above and beyond the basic capabilities that are required for kindergarten entrance. Many kindergarten programs expect students to enter with the ability to recognize letters and numbers, trace and cut with scissors, and have social skills such as the ability to follow classroom rules and obey authority. In fact, many pre-kindergarten students can read simple one- and two-vowel words and even sentences. Most students can clearly write their name as well as many other words and numbers. Classroom rules are based on Biblical principles such as kindness, respect, and obedience.

The STRIVE program meets the needs of students with diverse learning abilities so each student can reach their full potential. Our program is designed to provide students with guidance, and academic support programs implemented through accommodations, which are aligned with the school academic curriculum (we do not offer modified curriculum) to help students develop and strengthen the academic skills necessary for independent and life-long learning. STRIVE offers individualized support from pre-K to high school. Our goal is to provide students with the tools to successfully build confidence and growth at every grade level. All of our techniques are research-based by experts in the field.
